Offering a range of camping options
Sheepstation Creek is a popular campsite at Border Ranges National Park located in northern New South Wales. NPWS engaged NewScape to develop a concept design for the site to improve the overall experience for visitors. The site is used primarily for camping but it also has a day use role as a picnic area and a trail head to the Palm Forest walking track. For popular visitor precincts it is considered best practice to separate camping and day visitation to minimise the conflicts of these two different uses.
The concept design for the site defines the day use area at the “front” of the site, where day visitors can utilise the existing toilet and open grassed area. New car parking spaces will be provided and the hiking trail head will also be relocated to the day use area.
The concept design also incorporates a range of camping upgrades including:
• A central grassed parkland with shared cooking facilities and fire pit facilities
• Numbered car camping sites for online booking
• Camping platforms to provide a “boutique” camping experience and make use of the sloping landform for camping
• Camp cabins catering to a family aimed at extending the shoulder season of the campground
